Biography

With over a decade of professional experience at the University of Kansas, Missy Somers has taken on roles such as Scholarship Processing Coordinator for the Financial Aid & Scholarships Office and Supervising Lead Teacher at the Edna A. Hill Child Development Center, where she was recognized with a ‘Best of Lawrence – Preschool Teacher’ award during the peak of the COVID pandemic. 

She began her journey at the University of Kansas in 2011 as a first-generation college student, ultimately obtaining a bachelor's degree in Applied Behavioral Science and Psychology with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education and Behavioral Intervention. Throughout her undergraduate studies, she held positions as a Student Verification Specialist and Peer Advisor within the Financial Aid & Scholarships Office, in addition to serving as a Teacher and Research Assistant in various classrooms and laboratories at the Edna A. Hill Child Development Center.

Currently, as a Senior Functional Systems Analyst on the Strategic Initiatives Team, Missy plays a vital role in the development of the Finance Service Portal (FSP). She collaborates with KU IT, senior financial leaders, and stakeholders who utilize the portal to enhance service delivery. Her duties encompass system support, including the development, implementation, and maintenance of finance-related forms and workflows, conceptualizing and designing data reports and dashboards, addressing user support and training requirements, as well as overseeing the FSP TDX Help Desk.
